Share the Finish

After days of riding from the Southern Alps to the Pacific Ocean, finishing the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail deserves more than a photograph and an immediate trip home.

At Moa Gardens, the last night becomes part of the adventure.

Continue a little further along the coast from the A2O finish in Oamaru, put the bikes away, take a shower, sit down to a generous meal with other riders and soak tired legs in one of our private fresh-water hot tubs.

Then spend the evening swapping stories about the trail before waking to breakfast the following morning.

Dinner. Soak. Sleep. Breakfast.

Then you're ready to head home.

  • ARRIVE

Finish in Oamaru, take the obligatory finish-line photo, then make the easy ride along the closed coastal road to Moa Gardens. Park the bike, drop your bags and settle in.

  • EAT

Gather around the big table with fellow riders for a generous, wholesome buffet dinner. Seasonal salads, roast potatoes, breads, proteins and something sweet.

  • SOAK

After dinner, sink into a private fresh-water hot tub. Ninety minutes, no chlorine, and absolutely nowhere else you need to be.

  • RELAX

Head to the beach, sit around the fire pit, have hot chocolate and marshmallows, or simply swap trail stories with whoever happens to be staying surrounded by the stars.

  • SLEEP

Simple, comfortable private rooms and shared bathrooms. Nothing fancy, just a proper bed after several days on the bike.

  • BREAKFAST

Wake up to a help-yourself breakfast of homemade muesli, cereal, toast, local preserves, yoghurt, fruit and pastries before heading on.

The Finish Line Package

From $250 per person.

Our working Finish Line package includes:

  • overnight accommodation
  • bed linen and towels
  • buffet-style evening meal
  • 90-minute fresh-water Garden Soak
  • continental-style breakfast
  • secure space for bicycles
  • complimentary Wi-Fi
  • use of our communal lounge and outdoor spaces

The Finish Line experience is designed for independent riders, couples, friends and small groups.

You do not need to book the whole lodge, just a room.

Where enough riders are staying on the same evening, dinner is enjoyed together around our communal table.

For quieter nights with only a small number of guests, a simpler accommodation, breakfast and soak option may be offered instead.

Give the Ride a Proper Ending

The Alps 2 Ocean is more than transport from Aoraki to Oamaru.

You've spent days riding, eating, getting lost, climbing hills, battling weather, stopping for photographs and sharing the experience with other people.

We think it deserves a proper ending.

Instead of crossing the finish line and immediately getting into a vehicle, give yourself one evening to stop.

Eat.

Soak.

Talk.

Sleep.

And let the ride actually finish.

Accommodation Season

The Finish Line accommodation operates during our quieter garden seasons, generally:

September – December
April – June

During our main summer garden season, the lodge becomes part of the public Moa Gardens visitor experience and overnight accommodation is generally closed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many guests can you accommodate?

The lodge can sleep a maximum of 14 people across 7 rooms.

Are the bedrooms ensuite?

No. Bathrooms are shared. There are four showers and six toilets available to accommodation guests.

Can I stay for just one night?

Yes. The Finish Line is specifically designed around a one-night post-trail stay.

Do I need to book as a group?

No. One of the reasons we created the Finish Line is to allow independent riders and smaller groups to share the final evening with other people who have completed the trail.

Are the hot tubs chlorinated?

No. Each hot tub is filled with fresh water for each booking.

Is dinner included?

The full Finish Line package includes our communal buffet-style dinner. On very quiet accommodation nights we may offer a simpler stay without the full communal dinner.

Is breakfast included?

Yes. The full Finish Line package includes a simple help-yourself breakfast.

Can you cater for vegetarian or other dietary requirements?

Yes, where we know about them in advance. Please tell us when booking.

What happens to our bikes?

Secure bike storage will be available during your stay. We are also happy to work with A2O operators where bikes need to be collected after your ride.

Can luggage be delivered to Moa Gardens?

We intend to work with A2O transport and luggage providers so luggage can meet riders here. Please ask when booking while we establish these arrangements.
